Vasylina Mykolaivna is 88 years old. Born in a small village in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, she endured a challenging childhood as her father was away at war, and her mother single-handedly raised three children.
Completing her education in the village, Vasylina went on to pursue a sewing profession in Kolomyia. Throughout her entire working life until retirement, she worked at a sewing factory. She recalls sewing all the clothing for herself and her daughter.
At the age of 46, tragedy struck as Vasylina’s daughter, battling a serious illness, passed away. The woman struggled intensely with this profound loss, tearfully reminiscing about those years. Despite sharing the grief with her husband, their supportive partnership, after three more years, also came to an end.
Since then, Vasylina finds life overwhelmingly painful, feeling a profound loneliness without her dearest ones. Additionally, after a fall resulting in a triple fracture of her lower limb, she finds it extremely difficult to walk, even within her apartment.
“Fortunately, social workers from Caritas Kolomyia help me. Yaroslava comes, asks what I need to buy or do around the house, and assists me with everything, for which I am very grateful,” Vasylina shares.
Recalling the past, Vasylina expresses her sorrow as friends and neighbors used to visit, help, and engage in conversations. However, presently, she misses this interaction the most. Unfortunately, her neighbors have moved, and friends no longer visit.
