Valentyna and Mykola: Stronger Together

Valentyna Andriivna and Mykola Anatoliiovych, two souls with challenging pasts, met at the Kozelets Geriatric Nursing Home. Both are in the highest disability category and have grown used to a life of silence and solitude, where each day resembles the one before. Yet, this encounter brought them a new sense of purpose—the gift of having someone by their side who supports, understands, and becomes a lifelong companion.

They now live together in a small private house, where they care for a few chickens and a cat. The cat is always nearby, purring beside Mykola when he feels down, as if sensing his need for comfort. Mr. Mykola is limited in mobility and requires constant care, having lived with cerebral palsy since childhood. Despite her own health challenges, Ms. Valentyna devotes all her attention and care to him, becoming his hands, his legs, and his support every day. With no children or family, Valentyna and Mykola rely solely on the help of social workers.

This story isn’t about survival but about the indomitable strength of the human spirit. It’s a reminder of the importance of having someone who understands and accepts you, no matter what hardships life may bring. We thank Valentyna and Mykola for their example of resilience and unwavering faith in kindness.
