«In less than a year, I made 10 food deliveries to more than 160 elderly people. Unfortunately, very often, no one cares about them, they live in difficult conditions, and we never know what circumstances of their lives led to this. They really need our help — someone is sick; someone doesn’t get up anymore; someone needs medicine and does not have the strength in his legs to go to the pharmacy, or has no money for a minimum set of groceries. We don’t see it, but it is, and it is a sad picture.
One day, when I was delivering food to elderly people, Ivan Petrovich met me on the doorstep. He was kneeling right in the doorway because he fell off a chair and waited for us for almost 2 hours.
As a token of gratitude, one elderly woman offered to pick up her piano. Some cried with joy at the meeting, and some with pain.
Therefore, if you see a lonely elderly person, do not hesitate to approach them and ask if they need help with medication or food. Alternatively, maybe they just need to be listened to.
I believe that helping others can beautify our lives with meaning and happiness and that at the end of the road we will be able to say to ourselves: “I didn’t live in vain”
